Hi friends! 👋🏻 I have been reading a lot more adult fiction than I was before and working in a library is not helping my TBR to get any smaller since I spent most of my day coming across newer reading material while shelving. I’m not really venturing too far out of my comfort zone since I’m still going to my usual sci-fi, fantasy, and horror fare but that doesn’t bother me too much. You’re not going to find me reading books about young women in small English villages during wartime anytime soon, don’t worry about that. (No shade to people who like those kinds of books but they’re just not for me.) Gallant by V.E. Schwab Everything casts a shadow. Even the world we live in. And as with every shadow, there is a place where it must touch. A seam, where the shadow meets its source. Olivia Prior has grown up in Merilance School for girls, and all she has of her past is her mother’s journal—which seems to unravel into madness. Then, a letter invites Olivia to come home—to Gallant. Yet when Olivia arrives, no one is expecting her. But Olivia is not about to leave the first […]

Hi friends! 👋🏻 I love a good series but I’m really bad at finishing them. Sometimes I start a series and I really love it and I get a little overexcited and buy all the books in the rest of the series and then I end up completely forgetting about them. It’s a vicious cycle that I can’t seem to get out of. There are series where I’ve just given up on them entirely because I either didn’t like the first book, the series was too long for me to commit to, or it had been such a long time since I’d started it that I just wasn’t interested in it anymore. Thankfully, these series are not like that. It may have been a long time since I first started reading them, but that doesn’t mean that I can’t go back and reread it as if it’s the first time I’ve ever read it. (IMAGE SOURCE) the wayfarers series by becky chambers It hasn’t been that long since I read The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet (or maybe it has because time just doesn’t feel real anymore) but this is a series that I am itching to get my claws […]

Hi friends! 👋🏻 February is LGBTQ+ History Month in the UK (our Black History Month is in October) and I’ve found that recently I’ve been adding more and more queer books to my TBR without actively looking for them, which is a good thing in my opinion. I tend to not talk about queer books as much as I used to because my tastes and what I want to read about could possibly land me in hot water with certain members of the community. I consider myself to be a queer woman but I don’t want to read about M/M relationships because it feels fetishistic for me to do that, I still prefer M/F pairings and I don’t have much interest in polyamory. Does that make me prejudiced towards people in those relationships? I don’t think so but I can see why other people want to read those dynamics, it’s just not for me. When I add books to my LGBTQ+ TBR, I only add books that explicitly have queer characters, not characters who are “queer coded” and no characters who are hinted at to be queer without the author saying that they are. I’m not that good at figuring […]

Hi friends 👋🏻 It’s not a secret that I have been on a huge horror kick recently, but I’m a huge fan of any kind of book that doesn’t take place in an entirely realistic setting. I always do make an effort to read more diversely in other genres and find books that treat diversity as a normal thing, which I think should be expected of fantasy and sci-fi books. I did try to find fantasy books for this list but it turns out that I’m not a big fantasy reader 🤷‍♀️ Sci-fi and horror are my go-to genres after all, so all of the books here are from those two genres. Also, some of these books may not be considered Queer by other people, but this is my list and my definition of a Queer book may differ from yours. (also, I’m aware that the header image says ‘spec-fic’ but it turns out that I was using the term incorrectly and very few of these books are spec-fic.) also, if you know what movie the gif is from, we are now best friends. A Closed and Common Orbit by Becky Chambers – I finally read The Long Way to a […]

Books, Memes, TBR Lists, Top 10 Tuesday

Hi friends! 👋🏻 Today is the real first day of autumn in the Northern Hemisphere so I’m excited to share a part of my autumn TBR with you all! I say “part” of my TBR because I have two themed TBRs in autumn and I tend to go a little overboard. In October I read more horror, paranormal, and thriller books, while in November I read sci-fi. This part of my TBR is mostly my October TBR because there are a lot of things that I want to read in October and since this is Top 10 Tuesday, I’ve limited myself to 10 for the time being. Also, I don’t really know what I want to read in November yet, oops. The Monstrumologist by Rick Yancey – Yes! I am finally going to read the book that I named my blog after! Yes I am aware that naming my blog after a book that I haven’t read is a little silly, but it sounded cool, okay? Ring by Koji Suzuki – I haven’t read very much Japanese horror outside of manga so I’m very excited to finally read thing one and also watch the movie adaptation. The Japanese one, of course, not the American remake. Mexican […]
