Books, Memes, TBR Lists, Top 10 Tuesday

This Friday marks the real first day of summer, and I am not that thrilled about it, in all honesty. I’ve always hated summer and hot weather and if I could afford it (and there wasn’t a global pandemic) I would hop over to the southern hemisphere during their winter just so I could avoid the heat. I live in a house that is over a hundred years old, has a ton of insulation and no air conditioning, so summer is just awful for me. But anyway, since my hobbies involve staying at home and reading, summer is a great time to switch up what I read because I am totally a seasonal reader. I did actually have this list completely primed and ready to go, but then some things happened involving She-Who-Will-Not-Be-Named and I did some retuning. jsyk, i won’t be talking about jkr or any of her books on this blog ever again because her “opinions” are vile. Little & Lion by Brandy Colbert – What’s better than a queer book? A queer book that features a black protagonist from a blended family and also talks about mental health. I mentioned this book in my Books by Black Authors I Want […]

Animal Crossing New Horizons Book Tag

I have played Animal Crossing every single day ever since I got it in April, and I have absolutely no regrets about that. I love how soothing it is to play and definitely helps me to feel better when I’m feeling down. If you play it and want to visit my island, let me know! This tag was created by Bec and Angharad @ Two Book Thieves! You can check out their original post here! Past Villager – Who is a character you found when you were younger that still has a place in your heart? Uglies was probably the first YA book I ever read and it is still one of my absolute favourites. Tally is among my favourite YA heroines and has stuck with me for such a long time that I don’t want to let her go. I hope she does eventually appear in the Impostors series because all of the talk of her is teasing me so much. Blather’s Blatherings – Recommend a historical fiction book that you think everybody should read I’m not a huge fan of historical fiction because history is not my favourite subject, but I adore Stalking Jack the Ripper because it’s not only historical, but it’s a mystery. And it’s […]

My Favourite Book Movies

My Favourite Book Movies

Lists, Movies

I have a very strong belief that the movies are not inferior to books, and movie adaptations are definitely not inferior to the books that they are based on. If you ask me, there is a layer of snobbiness to the idea that the book is always better with no exceptions and I don’t agree with it at all. If you like the movie more, then that’s fine. If you don’t want to read the book, that’s also fine. But that is not what I am here to talk about. Today, I wanted to share some of my absolute most favourite movie adaptations! I have read the books that most of these books are based on, and it’s not a big deal to me if I go my whole life without reading the book a movie is based on. Some fiction movies are based on non-fiction books that I will never have an interest in, and I’m not going to beat myself up over it. This movie is pretty damn problematic these days, but we have to remember that it came out in 1960 and the book in 1959 when attitudes towards mental illness and gender diversity were a lot […]

Books, TBR Lists

One thing that I really want to do is read more books by black authors because the amount of books I have read by black authors right now is terribly low. I did study some of Alice Walker’s short stories while at university but now I feel like that’s not enough. We should always make sure that we amplify black voices, but now we need to do it more than ever and support black authors. This post is only comprised of books that I want to read and haven’t read yet, but here are some videos and posts by black bloggers and BookTubers who give better recommendations than I could ever give: Recommending Books by Black Authors with Black Characters – Olivia’s Catastrophe YA by Black Authors | Black History Month Recommendations – LucieReads 5 Classic Novels by Black Women You Should Have Read by Now – Black & Bookish 30 Best Black Young Adult (YA) Novels to Add to Your TBR in 2020 – Afoma Umesi Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi I have had this book on my TBR ever since it came out but for some reason, it kept getting pushed back further and further. My […]
