Upcoming Movies on My Watchlist

Upcoming Movies on My Watchlist

Hi friends! 👋🏻 We’re getting into the later part of the year, which means that there are so many more movies that I want to see! There haven’t been a lot of movies I’ve wanted to see since the spring since the summer tends to get dominated by action movies and franchises that I’m just not interested in. There’s nothing really wrong with that since people like those movies, but they’re just not for me so there are years where I end up going months without seeing a new movie.

Because I love doing challenges that will turn my brain into mush, this year I’m not doing 31 Days of Halloween, but 92 Days of Halloween. The goal of this challenge is to watch 100 horror movies in 92 days, and they can only be movies that you have never seen before. I like to rewatch my favourites in the run-up to Halloween so it’s going to be tough to watch 100 that I’ve never seen before.

This GIF here will be me by the end of October:

I know this movie has already been released in the US, but we still have another week to wait in the UK and I have been avoiding reviews of it like a germ. I loved Get Out and wasn’t that keen for Us, but I’m still very excited about this movie. I haven’t kept up with Keke Palmer’s career since she was on Nickelodeon, but I remember loving her back then, and Daniel Kaluuya is an incredible actor so I have no doubts about their performances.

three thousand years of longing

I’ve been seeing trailers for this movie since around April and it’s not out until September so waiting for it to come out is going to be excruciating. I love both Tilda Swinton and Idris Elba, and I’ve only seen two of George Miller’s movies (The Witches of Eastwick and Babe), but I love his filmmaking style and the premise is so interesting.

This is apparently a Hulu original, but we don’t have Hulu in the UK (we have Star on Disney+ which is a similar thing) so I’m not sure if it’ll be released here, but I really hope it is because I love the original Predator movie and while none of the movies have been as good as the first one, I’m always excited when a new one is released. Fingers crossed that this one will be better than the last one!

This movie is a prequel to the movie X, which I absolutely loved despite providing me with one of the most awkward cinema experiences in my life (it’s about a group of people hiring a farmhouse to make a porno if you didn’t know). I don’t know much about it, other than it’s about the villain of the first movie and I’ve been avoiding any and all trailers because I want to go into this one not knowing anything and having no expectations, as I did with the first one.

The last Halloween! Unless they decide to do another reboot somewhere down the line, that is. I’ve really enjoyed this series of requels for the original Halloween since they’re a continuous story rather than just more instalments in a franchise. Plus, seeing Jamie Lee Curtis kick ass as Nanna Laurie Strode is just awesome. I’ll be a little sad to see the series come to an end, but I can’t wait to see how it turns out.

If you follow me on Twitter (which you should, by the way), you’ll know that I am a DC girl in a sea of Marvel fans, and while I think the early DCEU movies were better (back when there was actually a plan, despite the studio interference), I am still excited for this movie. It feels like it’s been a decade since this movie was announced so when it finally comes out my bum will be in the cinema as soon as I am able to get to it because I work full time and get home at 7 p.m. every weekday.

I don’t know a lot about the Black Adam character, but I am very interested to see how it turns out since I’m pretty sure Dwayne Johnson will give a good performance.

Shazam: Fury of the Gods (2022) movie poster

I know that I’m in the unpopular camp with my DC opinions, but I personally think that Shazam! is the best post-Snyder DC movie because it has the perfect balance of camp and seriousness. It’s a movie about a teenage boy who finds out he can turn into a superhero, so of course, it’s going to be campy, but the serious parts balance it out perfectly and it’s what I wanted Thor: Ragnarok to be (yes, I’m in the unpopular camp with that one too).

BATFLECK CAMEO!!!! I haven’t been following the production of this movie because a lot of it has been drowned out by the world’s favourite wife beater turning everyone on one of the main stars (you know who I mean and if you support him you’re not welcome here), but the announcement that Ben Affleck has a cameo appearance as Bruce Wayne has revitalised me.
