Hi friends! šŸ‘‹šŸ» I may have taken an accidental short break thanks to my ever changing sleep schedule, but I am back in action and ready to act like nothing ever happened! It is no secret that I love my monsters. I like evil monsters, good monsters, neutral monsters, scary monsters, cuddly monsters, monsters who need a hug, monsters that will probably tear your ears out if you try to go near it, and monsters that are so giant that they would crush your house under their feet.Ā Monsters are great is what I’m getting at here, so I decided that today I would talk about my favourite monsters and why they are so awesome. Also, look at this GIF. It’s incredible. Godzilla –Ā Godzilla Of course, I have to start off with the King of the Monsters. And don’t try to argue with me that someone else is the King of the Monsters because you’ll be wrong. The Big G has a movie called King of the Monsters so it’s undisputed. What I love the most about Godzilla is that because he is a character that doesn’t talk and we never hear his thoughts (well, most of the time) he can […]

Why I Don’t Read YA Horror (very often)

Why I Don’t Read YA Horror (very often)

Books, Discussions, Spooky Month

When I was putting together my TBR for this month something I noticed was that I have only one YA book and the others are all adult books or classics. This got me wondering why exactly it is that I don’t read more YA horror books and tend to gravitate more towards horror for adults. In my very personal opinion, YA horror could do a lot better so that it can stand shoulder to shoulder with adult horror. There are even cases of middle grade horror being better that YA, so what could be improved on? Let’s talk about that, shall we? YA horror has a large focus on romance This is very likely a problem with YA as a whole but it feels a lot more prominent in genre fiction, and definitely in horror. Probably the best YA horror series I’ve read is theĀ Anna Dressed in BloodĀ duology but although it is violent, gory, and scary, it is still primarily a romance. The last thing you expect from a series about a ghost hunter is for the ghost hunter to fall in love with the ghost that they are hunting. It happens inĀ The MediatorĀ series too but that’s to be expected […]

My Bookish Horror Movie Watchlist

Movies, Spooky Month, Watchlists

One thing that I am always on the lookout for is horror movies that are not based on books by Stephen King. Not to knock Stephen King, I’m sure he’s a fine writer whose books I’ve never finished, but it is far too easy to just fall back to his works and movies based on them when there are so many other books out there that have been made into movies. Some of those are classics and some are a little more obscure, but it’s always great to find horror by writers who aren’t Stephen King. My movie watchlist is just like my TBR in the way that it is constantly expanding and overflowing. As of right now, I currently have two movie jars (one for all genres and one for October) and I’m going to make another one for Sci-Fi Month next month. It’s very obvious that I don’t have any self-control šŸ™ˆ The ExorcistĀ (1973) According to pretty much everyone, not only isĀ The ExorcistĀ considered to be the scariest movie ever made, it is a pretty tough movie to watch even though the full-on horror doesn’t happen until the second half. 13-year-old me would not have even considered wanting to […]

Announcements, Blogging, Spooky Month

Hi friends! šŸ‘‹šŸ» Today is a very exciting day because Iā€™m bringing my annual Spooky Month to Monstrumology! If you’re new to me, Spooky Month is a month-long event that Iā€™ve done on-and-off since 2012. In October I dedicate all of my posts, reading, and watching habits to all things spooky. What do I mean by spooky? Not just horror! As well as horror I will be talking about thrillers, supernatural stories, Gothic, and my beloved monsters. I don’t do a linky for this event as itā€™s more for me to share my love of dark things but if you have any posts about spooky things this month do drop me a link and Iā€™ll be sure to share it!
