Books I Forgot That I Bought

Books I Forgot That I Bought

Book Hauls, Books

Hi friends! đŸ‘‹đŸ» Since I started working in a library, I don’t buy a lot of books anymore. Why would I need to when I have a reasonably unlimited source of books at my workplace? An unfortunate thing that comes with this is that on those rare occasions when I do buy books, I can’t remember if I already have them at home or if I got them from the library. This doesn’t happen as often anymore, but there are still times when it does happen. Recently, I found a couple of bags on my bedroom floor that had books in them. Books that I’d obviously bought at some point but couldn’t really remember when. Some still had price stickers on them and they clearly hadn’t been touched, but the fact that I completely forgot I had them just shows how much of my life revolves around books now. it’s behind you by kathryn foxfield This book wasn’t part of the bag of books I found, but it is one that I forgot I owned. When I first started working at the library, I was still a regular YA reader and would always look for books in our teen section. I saw […]

How I Read Seasonally

How I Read Seasonally

Books, Discussions

Hello again! đŸ‘‹đŸ» It’s been a while since I last posted and I do want to get back into posting regularly, so hopefully this is the first in a lot of regular Saturday posts. For almost the whole time I’ve been blogging, I’ve been a seasonal reader rather than a mood reader. There’s nothing wrong with being a mood reader, especially since most book bloggers are mood readers, but I’ve just never been that way. I’ve always had a very methodical way of reading that has seen different phases (when I was in school, I read two chapters before bed, then in sixth form a quarter of a book every day, now I do about three a day or I divide a book into sevenths to read) so mood reading is something that doesn’t pop into my brain very often. I guess that my seasonal reading could be considered a form of mood reading since the seasons tend to dictate what kind of mood I’m in, but I’ll just stick to ‘seasonal’ for now. Before we get into the post, I have some housekeeping: first of all, I got my Twitter account back! I learned about a little “hack” you can […]

15 Weird, Wild and Shocking Movies to Watch After ‘Saltburn’ and ‘Poor Things’

15 Weird, Wild and Shocking Movies to Watch After ‘Saltburn’ and ‘Poor Things’

Lists, Movies

Hello again! đŸ‘‹đŸ» Recently two movies have been causing a bit of a commotion and getting a bit of a reputation for being quite ‘shocking’: Saltburn and Poor Things. I watched both of them to see how they fared when compared to things that I usually watch, and my takeaway was that they’re not that shocking.  Actually, I didn’t like Saltburn. I thought it was a boring drama about rich people being leeched on by ‘poor’ people with nudity and couple of weird sex things that aren’t that scandalous. Poor Things was a lot better because it was funny, had characters that were interesting, but I still didn’t think it was that shocking. Yes, it’s about a woman who has a child’s brain and grows up over the course of the movie, but it’s still just people having sex. And that doesn’t shock me because I’m an adult and I’m also not a prude. If you’re looking for things that are more scandalous than Saltburn or Poor Things, you’ve come to the right place because these are some of the weirdest and wildest movies that I’ve seen. But if you’re thinking ‘hey, you missed this one’ it’s because I either didn’t think it was that shocking or I haven’t seen […]

My Favourite Sci-Fi Horrors

Books, Lists, Movies, Sci-Fi Month

Hi crew! đŸ‘‹đŸ» If you couldn’t tell, my two favourite genres are sci-fi and horror, so when the two are combined, I’m always going to be interested. Picking a list of my favourites was oddly easy for movies, but a lot harder for books. It seems that I need to seek out sci-fi horror books more often to see what books are out there. Personally, I think that sci-fi and horror make for a good combination because what’s scarier that what we don’t know? And science is all about finding out things we don’t know, whether that’s out in space or here on Earth. Sometimes Earth is scarier… alien (1979) The general consensus among sci-fi fans is that Aliens is the best movie in this series, but I completely disagree with that. I much prefer the atmosphere and the characters in Alien and the ‘haunted house but in space’ theme has always appealed to me more than the action-oriented Aliens. Yeah, there are more aliens and the Queen is in that one, but I just don’t care for the characters: the Marines are all total meatheads and Newt committed the cardinal sin of being a child in a movie. But anyway, Alien is always the movie that […]

Books, Sci-Fi Month, TBR Lists

Hi crew! đŸ‘‹đŸ» November is Sci-Fi Month and time for me to devote my reading and watching habits to the genre. I didn’t participate last year due to being very busy with assignments and whatnot, but that’s all behind me now so I have time to come back to blogging! I didn’t go for a particular theme with this year’s TBR, but rather books that I’ve been meaning to read for a long time or suit my current goals of having more diverse reading habits, whether that’s intentional or not. i am legend by richard matheson Naturally, I’m still in the horror mood (when am I not) and wanted something that is both sci-fi and horror and I Am Legend was the first thing to come to mind. I’ve just started reading this one so I don’t have a lot to say about it so far, but it’s one that’s been on my general TBR for a very long time. this is how you lose the time war by amal el-mohtar and max gladstone Like a lot of people, I came to know this book because of someone on Xitter called ‘Bigolas Dickolas’, and as a proud member of the Funny Xitter Display Name […]
