Hi crew! 👋🏻 Last year I saw this tag floating around Sci-Fi Month and wanted to do it myself, but I didn’t really have the time. However, it’s a new year and I remembered to do it this time around! I always like seeing people’s genre origin stories, and my sci-fi origin isn’t as interesting as my horror origin, but it was still fun to take a little trip down memory lane for a couple of my answers. This tag was originally created as the ‘Get to Know the Romance Reader Tag’ and was adapted for sci-fi by BookswithEmilyFox. 1. WHAT IS THE FIRST SCIENCE FICTION BOOK YOU READ? If I read any sci-fi books as a child, I probably don’t remember them, but the first that I remember finishing is Uglies. Happy November, friends! 👋🏻 This month is a very exciting month for me because not only am I starting a new chapter in life, but it is once again Sci-Fi Month! I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve taken part in Sci-Fi Month, but this will be my second year on this blog. This event has become such a big tradition for me that I can’t imagine not taking part. I have a lot planned for this month, but what particularly excites me is an outlandish series of posts where I give mini-reviews of every Godzilla movie ever made. Yes, all of them. Happy International Men’s Day to all you guys out there! Earlier this year, before I started this blog over from scratch, I listed five reasons why I love Lois Lane for International Women’s Day. This time around, I wanted to share my love for my favourite superhero and sci-fi hero, Superman! I haven’t always considered Superman to be my favourite superhero. That honour went to Batman for a very long time before I got really bored of the current Batman series, especially the mainline comics written by Tom King who appears to want to fulfil his Catwoman obsession (and I am not a Catwoman fan at all). But, as time has progressed, I’ve grown to love Superman more and more because when you look at him at face value, he seems like an average boring goody-two-shoes, but when you actually delve into his character, you see that he is a lot more than just an alien with superpowers. Superman stories focus on lots of things, like moral dilemmas, family, friendship, romance, politics, war, and many other heavy topics. In every genre, there will always be a subgenre that we just won’t like and will prefer others over it. In horror, I hate found footage but I love supernatural. And in sci-fi, I definitely refer soft sci-fi over hard sci-fi. There’s nothing objectively wrong with hard sci-fi and it has its fans, but it’s just not for me. Hard sci-fi is a division of science fiction that focuses on what is called the hard sciences. Those are STEM subjects like maths, physics, chemistry, biology, astronomy, and other sciences that are based on objective facts. Pretty much what you mind would go to when you think of science. Soft sci-fi, on the other hand, focuses on soft sciences or “social” sciences, like anthropology, sociology, or psychology. Even though we’re all reasonable people with common sense, I always feel the need to say that my opinions are not facts. I’m not saying that one type of fiction is better than another because fiction is art and art is subjective. Happy November, friends! Sci-Fi Month officially started on Sunday but I took a couple of days to blog hop since I don’t post on Sundays or Mondays so today I am here to share my TBR for this month! Instead of buying new books, I decided to focus more on reading books that I already own since I am still planning to purge my bookshelves at some point. Also, my order of Supernova hasn’t arrived yet so I’ll save it for later. The War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells I am a firm believer that a nice special physical copy can make the driest of classics more fun to read. Am I saying that The War of the Worlds is dry? Maybe I am, but I wouldn’t know whether it is or not because I haven’t read it yet. The most experience I have of it is the Jeff Wayne musical version that my dad would play in the car all the time, but the most I remember is that one song where the woman sings “no, Nathaniel” constantly.
