My Summer 2023 TBR

My Summer 2023 TBR

Books, TBR Lists, Top 10 Tuesday

Hi friends! đŸ‘‹đŸ» We’re now into summer in the Northern Hemisphere and I am not looking forward to it. I don’t need to explain how much I hate summer and hot weather in general but my hatred for it just intensifies as I get older (thanks to global warming). Usually, I centre my seasonal TBRs around specific genres and contemporary has been my summer genre for a long time now, but I’ve been reading so much horror and thriller recently that it’s all I want to read really. And that doesn’t bother me one bit because whoever said that horror is only for Halloween? The Texas Chain Saw Massacre took place in the summer, after all. House of Hunger by Alexis Henderson – Normally I wouldn’t pick a book about vampires for the summertime, but I’ve ended up picking five. Whoops. I’ve had a copy of House of Hunger on my shelves for a little while and since we’re nearing the end of Pride Month, I figured there’s no better time to read it. Because I am a vampire in real life. The Deathless Girls by Kiran Millwood Hargrave – Another sapphic vampire book, but a YA one this time. I’ve never read […]

Books, TBR Lists, Top 10 Tuesday

Hi friends! đŸ‘‹đŸ» We’re getting closer to autumn, which means that we’re almost at Halloween! Of course, if you’re anything like me, every day is Halloween because I have watched almost nothing but horror movies for two years now. If you’ve been reading my blog for a long time, you’ll know about Spooky Month and Sci-Fi Month, so those should give you the reasons why my autumn TBRs are always exclusively horror and sci-fi. Hide by Kiersten White – I just started reading this one this weekend so I don’t have much to say just yet! Reprieve by James Han Matson – I got this book from my library and while it sounds very interesting, my brain keeps gravitating away from the story to the social commentary side that I keep reading about. I love horror that has social commentary, so I’ll be taking my time with this one. The Woods Are Always Watching by Stephanie Perkins – I don’t follow a lot of authors on social media anymore, and Stephanie Perkins isn’t that active anyway, so I didn’t know that this book existed until I saw it on the shelves in bookshops. I really enjoyed There’s Someone Inside Your House so I’m excited to see how this […]

10 Books I Was Excited to Get But Still Haven’t Read Yet

Books, Memes, Top 10 Tuesday

Hi friends! đŸ‘‹đŸ» I am two things when it comes to books: forgetful and a total procrastinator. If I know when a book is coming out and either pre-order it or buy it as soon as it comes out, that’s kind of an achievement for me. However, it also means that I am more likely to forget that it exists and will sit on my shelves for months or even years. This post here is me holding myself accountable for all of the books that I scooped up and then forgot about. Or at least ten of them because there are a lot more. Today I’m linking up to Top 10 Tuesday hosted by Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl! The Damned by Renee Ahdieh – In this post-pandemic-but-not-really world, my brain won’t let me remember when I read the first book in this series but I have a feeling that it was towards the end of 2019 and this book wasn’t even out yet. Now, there are two sequels and I have both but still haven’t read either of them. I am still very excited to read them because I have a feeling that the vampires will actually be vampiring in them. […]

Books, Memes, Top 10 Tuesday

Hi friends! đŸ‘‹đŸ» Today is a freebie for this week’s Top 10 Tuesday prompt so I decided to talk about some very popular and famous books that I’m just not very interested in. There’s nothing wrong with not being interested in a book because we can all read whatever we want, and while sometimes I don’t have a reason, I do have reasons for these ten books. Remember, just because someone isn’t interested in your favourite book doesn’t mean that they’re saying it’s a bad book, it’s just not for them. The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang – I love that this book is important to many Asian members of the blogging community, but it sounds just a little too heavy for me. And yes, I’m calling a book about war too heavy for me. Just looking at the content warnings tells me that this isn’t something I would enjoy, and that’s saying a lot because I’ve watched movies with real animal killings in them. Simon Snow series by Rainbow Rowell – It has been a very long time since I read Fangirl and I remember skipping every single chapter break that just showed snippets of Cath’s fanfiction because they just didn’t do anything for me. […]

Movies, Spooky Month, Top 10 Tuesday

Happy Halloweek, ghouls! đŸ‘‹đŸ» We’re almost at the end of Spooky Month and since this week’s prompt is a freebie, I wanted to share ten of my favourite horror movies with you all! I have watched almost exclusively horror movies since October of last year and I haven’t minded that one bit because I’ve gotten to explore the genre so much more than I have before and I even made a couple of new favourites. This past year has really proved to me that horror is my favourite genre now, which is in stark contrast to how I was ten years ago. Today I’m linking up to Top Ten Tuesday hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl! The Thing (1982) – It took me a very long time to watch this movie because it has a reputation of being one of the scariest body horror movies ever made (at least, it does now because it was hated when it first came out), but I’m glad that I eventually did watch it because it lives up to that reputation. I don’t really get scared anymore, but The Thing is one of the very few movies that still scares me. Re-Animator (1985) – I watched this movie for the first time last […]
